On my latest trip to Japan, this time solely to the otaku wonderland of Akihabara, I was seeking a particular treasure. With the help of possibly one of the sweetest anime voice actresses in the entire seiyuu business, I found myself in Bic Camera, a brand new Tamagotchi in my hand.
This new release boasts a colored screen much like the M!X, and comes in various different versions. Personally I opted for the Purple Fantasy variation, not only because I'm a big fan of fantasy anyway, but largely because the casing was far and away my favorite among what they had on offer.
It's cute, inside and out, and what's an added bonus is that you can connect it to the Meets App on your phone. If you're stationed in Japan and wandering around the city, you can pick up bonus items via GPS and transfer them to your Tama. I believe the items you get may depend on the specific area, or it's my assumption as I did receive a computer for my pet while I was in Akihabara (which seems all too fitting, right?).
I've seen some people point out that this runs a little slower than the M!X, and that's actually true. It boots slower and there's a slight delay to the input, but personally I don't find it so significant as to be annoying.
The themed areas you can go to in the Fantasy version are especially cute. My favorite would be the Wonderland area, where you can meet characters like Yumemi Alice and Kirari Hatter.
One of the most amusing things you can do is encounter the mob of cards in Wonderland, who will paint your Tamagotchi instead of the roses. It washes off in the bath though.
Personally I would recommend picking this up, either in Japan right now or wherever you may be. The app allows you to connect with players from all over, and this can lead to friends and marriage. Of course, you can still meet in person too and connect that way.
Super cute and super fun!
